Huntington Beach has more than 600 large concrete fire rings to manage blazes safely and efficiently in the fabled Surf City USA® sands. Whether you want a beach barbecue, s'mores or intimate bowl of embers in the cool night air, fires are permitted in the rings without restriction.
Fire rings are free and available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Reservations are not accepted. They are strategically located in long, wide rows between parking and the surf, so it's easy to haul firewood. On summer weekends they are highly coveted and beachgoers frequently lay claim to them before noon.
During holiday weekends such as the Fourth of July, fire rings are staked out as soon as the beach opens. Get out as early as you can, pick out a site where you want to spend the day and surround it with your gear. You can then frolic in the sand and surf knowing that you have a perfect beach bonfire spot waiting for you at dusk.
You won't find free firewood on the beach, but you can buy it from several beach concessionaires, and city supermarkets sell kindling and firewood in boxes and bundles. If you've never experienced a bonfire on our Surf City USA beaches, you must make it a point to try. The spectacle of hundreds of glowing orange fires at dusk may spark something inside you.
