Boogie boarding can allow almost anyone to enjoy riding the Surf City USA® waves in Huntington Beach. Although boogie boards have found their way into world competition since being created by Tom Morey in 1971, they are perfect for novice thrill seekers who want great water adventure but don't have the time or inclination to learn how to ride a surfboard.
Part of the excitement of boogie boarding is that the rider is close to the water on the chest and stomach, like riding over snow on a sled instead of skis. The "Boogie" experience has a shorter learning curve, is less expensive and easier to create than the riding experience of a surfboard.
Experienced boogie boarders identify the best waves and time their entries into the wave so they are carried all the way to shore in a wild, sensational ride covering 100 feet or more in just seconds. If you are new to the sport, your rides will be confined to shorter distances until you get the hang of it.
Boogie boards range in price from $45 to $200 depending upon weight and composition. They are available from most sporting goods stores in the area including Huntington Surf & Sport and Jack's Surfboards.
Renting a boogie board is another great option. At Huntington City Beach, rentals are available from Huntington Surf & Sport, Dwight's and Zack's. At Huntington State Beach, rentals are available from Wheel Fun Rentals in four locations.
